I have both traditional and Roth balances in my account. If I want to take out a loan or a withdrawal, can I designate the money to come from just one of them for tax planning purposes?
No. Loans and withdrawals are paid out proportionately from each type of account. In the case of loans, the repayments back into the account also are made based on that same ratio.
