Is my spouse’s permission needed in a withdrawal decision?
If you are under the Federal Employees Retirement System and making a full withdrawal of an account having more than $3,500, your spouse is entitled by default to a joint life annuity with a 50 percent survivor benefit, level payments, and no cash refund feature. Any other election requires your spouse’s signed and notarized consent. That also is required for a partial withdrawal of any size.

If you are under the Civil Service Retirement System, the TSP merely will notify your spouse of a withdrawal decision.

There are limited exceptions for certain circumstances.
