What are the standard age and service combinations to retire under FERS?
FERS-covered employees are eligible for standard voluntary retirement if: at least age 62 with at least five years of service, at least age 60 with at least 20 years of service, and at least minimum retirement age, (MRA—ranges between 55 and 57, depending on year of birth) with at least 30 years’ service. Reduced annuities are payable at the MRA for those with between 10 and 29 years of creditable service.

Under FERS, workers may retire after completing 10 years of service and reaching their MRA, and postpone receipt of those benefits in order to reduce or eliminate the 5 percent per year annuity reduction (5/12 percent per month) for drawing benefits before age 62 (age 60 with at least 20 years of service).
