Do Postal Service employees have the same insurance benefits as other federal employees?
The basic structure of the health insurance and life insurance programs are the same. However, under the Federal Employees’ Group Life Insurance program, USPS pays the entire cost of Basic insurance, in contrast to the one-third paid by employing agencies for federal workers in general.

Also, USPS pays by contract a greater share toward Federal Employees Health Benefits program premiums for its employees. This higher share does not apply to retirees, however; postal retirees pay the same premium rates as retirees of other agencies.
