Will I be eligible for Medicare?
Federal employment counts the same as all other employment for crediting toward Medicare eligibility, since federal employees pay the Medicare tax from their salaries. Generally 40 calendar quarters of coverage is needed to make yourself (and your spouse, if pertinent) eligible. Medicare eligibility starts at age 65 for you and your spouse except in limited circumstances allowing an earlier beginning.

If you are still working at age 65, FEHB insurance coverage will continue as primary insurer, with Medicare as the secondary insurer until you retire.

While you generally do not have to pay a monthly premium for Part A (unless you and your spouse have fewer than 40 calendar quarters of coverage), you must pay for the other parts.
