What happens to an FSA account if I retire or leave federal service for another reason?
If you separate for retirement or other purposes before the end of a plan year, a health care FSA ends. Any expenses incurred before separation will be reimbursable, even if claims are submitted after separation. Any remaining balance in an account is not refunded.

A dependent care account balance will still be available for any eligible expense incurred within the plan year.
