I suggest this QUESTION: What Federal agency headquarters building was the first to have a central vacuum cleaning system? Answer: The Department of the Interior Building, constructed during the Roosevelt Administration. The system is still operable, with outlets in the hallways where a long hose with nozzle can be attached, thus eliminating the need for hauling vacuum cleaners around the building. This building also was the first HQ building with central air conditioning. Offices in the building were equipped with wide doors and sinks, anticipating that the building might be converted to a hospital for casualties of an anticipated war.
