Feds win scholarships

Five federal employee families received one union’s scholarships this month, targeted at worthy feds or family members whose education will serve the wider community.

The scholarships—endowed by the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU) and managed by the Federal Employee Education and Assistance Fund (FEEA)—each total $5,000 and are awarded in addition to further help from FEEA.

One recipient, Eniola Ayo-Gbenjo, will attend medical school and after graduation intends to “follow in her parents’ footsteps” by helping her community.

“I have people rooting for me as I pursue an educational journey that will allow me to influence society for the better,” Ayo-Gbenjo wrote

Another recipient, Natalie Ibarra, was also motivated by family. Her father works for Customs and Border Protection in Texas, a pillar and source of inspiration to her future in public service. She will attend Texas A&M and hopes to work in the forensic science area of law enforcement.

Miranda “Rosie” Benford, Emily Dayhoff and Abigail R. Eli round out the remainder of this year’s NTEU-FEAA award recipients. Read more on all awardees at the NTEU website.
