NARFE: On key issues, contact your reps

A major nonprofit membership association speaking for approximately 175,000 current and former federal employees is calling all feds, asking that you please contact your representatives on Capitol Hill.
The group—the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees—is issuing a stark reminder that time is running out on NARFE's big summer 2021 push on legislation before Congress, legislation that feds need to tell their reps they are for, against—or want amended.
“August is nearing its close, and there are less than two weeks left of NARFE’s Grassroots Advocacy Month, which runs through Labor Day,” the group is announcing.
“Have you engaged with your lawmakers on NARFE’s top legislative priorities yet?” the NARFE notice asks feds. “The following are activities you can participate in … “
The group warns that feds should make sure their voices are heard on a number of pieces of pending legislation.
“If you are affected by the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) or Government Pension Offset (GPO), want more accurate cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs), or are concerned postal reform legislation could raise your health insurance premiums, you can make your voice heard and educate the public about these issues,” NARFE says. “It’ll only take a few minutes of your time.”
That investment of time can be so brief because NARFE is offering links whereby you can create letters to your representatives advocating increasing COLAs or opposing flaws in Postal Service reform legislation, or write to opinion page editors (especially with respect to WEP and GPO) and others via various online templates. There are also links to help members make and publicize their own online audiovisual opinion-making.
Editor's note: An earlier version of this piece contained an error regarding the number of NARFE members. That has since been corrected.
