FEP extends $75 & $50 vaccine credits

Federal health insurers are reminding members that they have extended the deadline for dollar credit incentive for feds who get the COVID-19 vaccine—payable to member wellness accounts and cards.

Earlier this summer, major federal insurers that administer the Federal Employees Health Benefits Plan (FEHBP) announced various dollar credit programs available to members and family who got vaccinated—even those who had done so previously.

So, the credits always have been retroactive—you could (and still can) get your credit even if you got vaccinated months before the various programs were announced. But the bonus had an absolute deadline for getting your shot, originally July 4. But the program has since pushed that back.

Under the current change, the Federal Employee Program (FEP) umbrella is getting out the word on that extension: The deadline now? Labor Day.

“GEHA announced it will extend the previously launched COVID-19 Vaccination Incentive Program for GEHA medical plan members to September 6, 2021,” one of the major insurance organizations, the Government Employee Health Association, announced a few days ago. “Federal workers are the backbone of our nation's infrastructure, and our vaccination incentive program is designed to support them and their families during this critical time.”

GEHA is offering a $75 credit per vaccinated participant.

The largest FEP organization—Blue Cross/Blue Shield, offering a slightly lower $50 credit per vaccinated participant—is also reminding members that they still have time to apply.

“The vaccines are our most powerful tool to stop the spread of COVID-19,” Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal Employee Program (FEP) says in its announcement (also clarifying that the first dose must be done by Sept. 6 and credit application done before Dec. 31, 2021). “Eligible members can earn $50 on their MyBlue® Wellness Card when they submit their vaccination record before the end of the year.”

“The COVID vaccines are safe, free and our best defense against the virus,” Blue Cross video promoting the bonus touts.

“Do your part,” the Blue Cross video urges. “Visit to get started.”

Is Kaiser Permanente Health Insurer participating in the vaccine credits of $50 to $75?

I wonder why some of these incentives are 25 bucks less than the others. They should just make it 100. That would get more interest. The right number. 3 digits.

They already have my vaccination in their records. "submit" is a hassle.
