Report: OPM surveys H.R. skills gaps

A survey from the Office of Personnel Management is off and running—with the aim to research and help close skills gaps in human resource management across federal agencies.

How will that be accomplished? OPM plans to analyze the results of the survey, to inform next steps agencies take to improve their H.R. processes and build up capacities of federal recruiting, hiring and retention across the board.

OPM is sending out surveys to feds from GS-5 to GS-15, as well as to their supervisors, to ask a series of probing questions. Those surveys are already being distributed, according to a new story in FEDweek.

If you have received the OPM survey in your email inbox, the personnel agency wants to remind participants that confidentiality of the data will be strictly maintained.

I love the idea of closing the gap within the HR ranks. I hope this will happen within the next couple of years.

It will take years to begin to undo the damage done, starting several administrations back. But it is true that the worst of the worst was the last president's treatment of feds. Insults are like worse than crappy failure to keep up with cost of living.

Recruiting and 'retaining' highly skilled workers is extremely difficult today after prior administrations berated and belittle all federal employees and deprived them of pay increases they deserved.. Federal pay is also far to low to attract 'best available 'highly skilled' workers. Federal wages only buys 'minor league' second string teams.

Retention at HUD is a joke. There is more disparate treatment Ms favoritism there than at any agency I’ve ever seen
