OPM OKs rehiring former feds at a higher salary

Many job-seekers view federal employers as good providers of security, but believe they offer little flexibility. This perception is often unfair, as many agencies have matched the private sector’s often family-friendly flexible hours, greater telework—and far more frequent job-switching. 

On this last trend, as detailed in a GovExec report: The Office of Personnel Management is enacting a rule change, effective July 8. 

The new rule will permit former feds to be re-hired at a higher salary than their last agency job. To date, the higher pay aspect at re-hiring—when effected outside competitive service procedures—has been prohibited. 

The new rule is designed to improve federal recruiting to a wider pool of Generation X and younger job prospects, who demonstrably job-switch more frequently—and move in and out of government jobs at higher rates—than their Baby Boomer counterparts did in their careers. Does this mean if I go back to work for the FAA, my CSRS retirement will NOT be effected? I would go back to work in a New York minute... and bring my 46 years of Fed experience with me if my retirement was protected. I’m working in private sector aviation now but would love nothing else but to go back to my old job. By the way.. when are they going to get rid of the WEP??
