The U.S. Army is now offering financial assistance that will help more soldiers with childcare and remote learning expenses caused by the pandemic.
The Army Emergency Relief has announced that the COVID-19 Childcare Assistance Program and Homeschool and Remote Education Assistance will now be 100% needs-based grants to those who can provide proof of need. Previously, the benefit was met with either grants, zero-interest loans, or a combination of both.
Expenses such as before/aftercare, childcare facilities, nursery schools and private child care are all included in the childcare benefit, and for homeschool/remote learning assistance, the grants can cover the costs of tutoring, educational software, extended WiFi, computers, tablets, and other educational materials needed for students in Pre-K through undergraduate school.
Expansion of the benefit falls in line with AER’s mission to provide financial help to active duty and retired soldiers, and their families.
AER provides about $70 million in grants and zero-interest loans to more than 40,000 military families who are experiencing temporary financial hardship each year.
Visit the AER website for more information and eligibility requirements.
