More than 1,000 TSA employees still have not received full shutdown back pay

Federal employees are now in their third pay period since the end of partial government shutdown, yet more than 1,000 Transportation Security Administration workers still have not received their full back pay, and a group of democratic lawmakers want answers.

According to a press release from Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), who is leading the effort to ensure that these employees are paid, CNN has reported that these workers – who have a median salary of less than $41,000 – are being impacted by TSA’s decision to only partially pay back employees in an attempt to alleviate some of the financial burden of not being fully paid.

Hirono, along with five other senators, penned a letter to TSA Administrator David Pekoske, demanding a quick investigation into the media report and a quick remedy of the situation.

“We write to express our deep concern about reports that 1,000 [TSA] employees nationwide have still not received the entirety of back-pay they are owed from the 35-day government shutdown,” senators wrote, adding “This is unacceptable and must be fixed immediately…”

The letter notes that in CNN’s report, an unidentified TSA official said Pekoske used fiscal year 2018 money to partially pay TSA employees, which cheated the purpose of the shutdown.

According to the source, the situation left TSA “…scrambling to keep people on the job because you had a number of sick outs taking place, but in fact, they created more problems for employees. And they’re dealing with it one month after the shutdown is over.”

The lawmakers are requesting an immediate investigation into identifying those affected employees, and demanded that they be “made whole” by the next scheduled pay period.

“If this is not practicable, please advise us on what date every TSA employee will be fully compensated. TSA needs to take responsibility for paying all employees correctly,” the letter continued.

Lazy administration, congress and senate chock full of do nothing minions who are over paid and surely do not exert any work ethics of any kind. Unfortunately they keep being elected by those who are apathetic.

Hey Pelosi, Schumer, Warren, McConnel Cortez and other elected minions: wake up and do your jobs to get these folks paid. You folks certainly raked in the big bucks during the shutdown. You folks are the reason term limits should be enacted.

SHAME SHAME SHAME on TSA and the Trump Administration. This is unconscionable!! Second to that - unconscionable that the President has still not signed an Executive Order for OPM to enact the pay raise that Congress approved several weeks ago.
