OPM puts dent in retirement claim backlog

The Office of Personnel Management’s retirement claim backlog fell in the month of November, after several months of increases.
The total retirement claim inventory in November was 19,162, down from 19,729 in October, and up from 17,628 in September and 17,513 in August.
The agency received 7,510 new retirement claims, far less than the 9,012 new retirement claims it received the month prior.
It processed 8,077 claims in November, up from 6,911 in October.
Seventy percent of the claims were processed in 60 days or less, and average number of days for claims processed more than 60 days was 99.
