It’s time to 'Show You Care' on International Volunteer Day—Dec. 5th!

It’s hard to believe, but the holiday season is upon us!
The Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA) is in full swing and celebrating its 57th year in action. Most federal employees know you can make a donation to your favorite causes through the CFC, but what you may not know is that you can also make a pledge to volunteer with your favorite charities through the program.
That’s why this year, you are encouraged to Show You Care by pledging volunteer time—especially on International Volunteer Day on Dec. 5th. This day was designated by the United Nations in 1985, providing an annual observance to promote volunteerism and community service.
Volunteering builds our communities and binds us together in common causes to improve the lives of others.
This holiday season, remember that together we can make a lasting difference in the lives of people and communities in need. There are thousands of participating charities, focusing on causes such as veterans’ services, disaster relief, cancer research, wildlife conservation and others. You can find your cause today at www.cfcnca.org.
Last year was the first time you could designate volunteer hours along with a financial gift through the CFC. In the 2017 campaign season, more than 125,000 volunteer hours were pledged nationally for thousands of participating local, national and international charities. That was a good start. This year already, more than 15,000 volunteer hours have been pledged in the National Capital Area alone, and we have over a month to go in this year’s campaign.
I hope you will join me in making a pledge to volunteer on Dec. 5th and Show You Care!
