OPM releases latest retirement claim backlog report

The time taken to process a retirement claim for September increased significantly for the Office of Personnel Management.

It took OPM an average of 64 days to process claims last month, the longest amount of time since January when it took an average of 63 days.

The total retirement claims backlog in September was 17,628, up from 17,513 in June, and up from its inventory in May of 18,024.

The agency received 7,142 new retirement claims, down from 8,826 in August, and processed 7,027 claims, compared with 9,647 in August.

The new figures are from OPM’s monthly claims processing progress report available on the OPM website.
