OPM proposes new locality pay areas

The Office of Personnel Management is seeking comment on a proposal to add four new locality pay areas.

According to the proposed rule, filed on July 6, the four new proposed areas include: Birmingham-Hoover-Talladega, Al.; Burlington-South Burlington, Vt.; San Antonio-New Braunfels-Pearsall, Texas; and Virginia Beach-Norfolk, Va.-N.C.

The rule, if approved, would go into effect on the first day of the first pay period beginning on or after January 1, 2019.

In addition to the four additions, the proposed rule also makes some changes to existing locality pay areas;  the Albuquerque-Santa Fe-Las Vegas, N.M., region would be expanded to include McKinley County, N.M., and San Luis Obispo County, Calif., would be added to the existing Los Angeles-Long Beach, Calif., region.

The proposal will be published in the Federal Register on July 9. The unpublished version can be downloaded here.
