Trump announces reward program

The Trump Administration this week announced a newly branded rewards program that aims to support and promote the work of federal employees.

“The Gears of Government Awards will recognize individuals and teams across the federal workforce, both within and across agencies, whose performance and dedication support exceptional delivery of key outcomes for the American people: mission results, customer service, and accountable stewardship,” a June 19 Office of Management and Budget memo states.

The awards program is modeled after the previous administration’s, “Federal Customer Service Award” program but invites all 24 agencies subject to the Chief Financial Officers Act to participate, instead of only 15.

Awards will be presented to individuals or small teams; individual awards recognizes the specific accomplishments and professionalism of workers, while the initiative award recognizes team efforts that promote an agency’s mission.

An annually President’s Award will also be presented to approximately 10 to 20 recipients.

The first Gears of Government Awards ceremony will take place in May 2019.

Same old same old. The same chosen group of people will get the awards while all the others get nothing. Anything with TRUMPs name on it is a waste of time.

No dollar amount mentioned in award program. It's for Trump types looking for recognition

Show me the money! The problem is that the federal government has a fixed labor budget. No matter what Trump wants to do, he can't make the federal govt into a private business which has a profit motive. If Google's profits skyrocket, the employees are rewarded with massive pay raises and vacations because the company has more money to throw around. The feds don't. Until Trump can tell me that 100% of all federal govt workers can receive an award like this and get cash awards, I think it's a bunch of bull. The federal govt can only spend so much on labor. Only so many people can get awards like this.
