DOD to restrict personal devices in classified workspace

The Defense Department on Tuesday announced that it will be strictly enforcing its restrictions on personal cellphones and other mobile devices in secured areas, the Associated Press reports.

According to the report, Deputy Secretary Patrick Shanahan released a memo that clarified current procedures that call for the devices to be secured in storage containers outside of areas where sensitive matters are discussed, but noted that they can still be used in common and other areas.

The restriction covers laptops, tablets, cellphones, smartwatches, and other devices that are portable, can wirelessly transmit information, and have a self-contained power source, the article notes.

You'd think DOD would have had those restrictions enforced a long time ago. As a prime contractor, we've been doing that since the "beginning of time."
