Proposed DOD reform bill would eliminate agencies, cut jobs

The House Armed Services Committee Chairman on Tuesday proposed a bill that would eliminate seven supporting agencies within the Defense Department that are a part of what is known as the “fourth estate,” FCW reports.

Mac Thornberry (R-Texas) said his goal is to "streamline, simplify, and get rid of the obsolete" in DOD by cutting back-office spending by 25 percent, which would generate a potential $25 billion in cost savings that would be reinvested in warfighter capabilities, the report notes, adding that 28 agencies and field activities and about 25 percent of DOD employees are in the fourth estate.

According to the article, he plans to roll the bill into the fiscal year 2019 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), and it includes eliminating the following agencies: Defense Information Systems Agency, the Defense Human Resources Activity, Defense Technical Information Center, Office of Economic Adjustment, Test Resource Management Center, Washington Headquarters Service and Defense Technology and Security Administration.

DTIC provides a vital function for all of DoD. They are a repository for everything that we have ever put into print. (I do not work for DTIC, I work for the Army.) We use them not only to archive our current reports, but also to search to see if there is related information on new projects--so we don't reinvent the wheel!

It amazes me to see what our "legislators" and I use the term loosely, are doing. If they are going to cut things, instead of putting the money in "warfighter" capabilities, put it into people and infrastructure here in the country. My husband was a decorated "warfighter", now deceased, so I've already lived the life. We have a mighty military and we are not hurting for protection. Put it where we n eed it inside our country toward our people.

As an employee of the bloated WHS I can speak from first hand experience, WHS is not needed and is redundant. The goals of WHS is to serve WHS. In 10 years of working there, I never once heard, "how will this help the warfighter," or "is this what the customer (OSD) needs." The management thinks they are the customer. There are 9 people between my position and the CMO, and all 9 of those people think they are the decision makers. 2020 can't come soon enough in my book.

DTIC and other related programs are vital to the success of our military and civilians. Get rid of minions like this clown and his cronies and the tax payers win in the long run. Ask this minion for all his financial and time and attendance records and you would find out he is as worthless as the rest of the congress, senate and other management minions festering in governmental roles.

House Armed Services Committee Chairman, Mac Thornberry should be downsized along with his pals in congress and senate. lets look at what cost savings would result. 1) Compensations is too high vs the amount of work done. 2) Their salaries and benefits are out of touch with the average tax payers salaries and benefits. 3) Maybe in November the entire lot will be out of a worthless tax payer funded job.
