Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the firing of FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe late Friday, NBCNews.com reports.
McCabe, who briefly led the agency after former FBI Director James Comey was terminated last year, was dismissed just hours before he was set to retire and become eligible for full pension benefits, according to the report.
In a statement, Sessions said McCabe was fired after an investigation found misconduct including making unauthorized reports to the media, the article notes, adding that the watchdog group that recommended the firing has been examining the agency's handling of the Hilary Clinton e-mail investigation.
