Senate confirms incoming OPM Director Pon

The Office of Personnel Management is no longer betwixt and between: the Senate confirmed incoming Director Dr. Jeff T.H. Pon.

Pon takes over from Acting Director Kathleen McGettigan, who has been running the show since January last year.

“I’m both honored and thrilled to serve as the Director of OPM,” Pon said in a statement. “[And] I am excited to get to work immediately on advancing the ambitious agenda the White House has set forth for our agency, including streamlining the Federal workforce to put our nation’s hard-earned tax dollars to effective use in serving the American people.”

The new director has worked extensively in the public and private sectors, most recently as the top strategy and H.R. officer at the Society for Human Resources Management. Prior to that, he worked as president and COO of Futures Inc., a management software firm that, according to his statement, aimed to “help find the right jobs for returning military, veterans, and their families.” On the private sector side of his resume, Pon worked as a principal at consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton.

Pon’s work in the federal government started with a White House internship during President George H.W. Bush’s term. In the early 2000s, Pon served as the deputy director for the eGovernment program at OPM.
