Defense: Short-term budget deals costly

The Department of Defense is perhaps the most disrupted of all federal agencies by the continuing shutdown threats and short-term budget deals, according to Government Executive

The article, quoting multiple sources—on Capitol Hill, in the Pentagon and in defense and foreign policy think tanks—notes that intermittent and disrupted DOD funding and spending can result in problems in hiring by private contractors that build military equipment and provide services.

These problems can—and do, according to the report—affect the readiness of the country’s armed forces as well as the economies of companies and communities that have banked on work from the Pentagon.
