Former VA employee indicted for stealing benefit money

A federal grand jury indicted a former Department of Veterans Affairs official on charges with a scheme to steal benefits for veterans.

A federal grand jury indicted a former Department of Veterans Affairs official on charges with a scheme to steal benefits for veterans.

According to a Department of Justice press release, Russell Ware of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, between September 2013 and May 2014, devised a scheme to steal more than $21,000 in VA disability benefit money that he had wired to his own bank account. The indictment also alleges that from October 2014 to February 2015, Ware directed additional disability benefits totaling almost $46,000 to a friend in Gulfport, Mississippi, who was not entitled to receive the money. 

The friend, then kicked back more than $13,000 to Ware, usually through the use of Walmart money transfers; she was is awaiting sentencing for her participation in the scheme.

Ware has been charged with four counts of wire fraud, one count of bribery, and one count of theft of government property.

In these types of fraud case the penalty should include a cash fine equal to Three Times more money than was stolen __ in addition to some jail time. This person wanted to "Take from others' so we should Take everything he owns from him as the penalty.
