With a Republican president in office, Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) says he can now focus on making meaningful changes to the federal workforce, starting with eliminating defined-benefit pensions for new federal employees and making it easier to fire employees accused of sexual misconduct, Government Executive reports.
According to the article, Chaffetz— who chairs the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee— on Jan. 9 said, with the support of the new Trump administration, he plans to make sweeping reforms to federal employees’ retirement benefits, job security and even office locations.
He also promised to dismiss proposals exclusively aimed at cutting the federal workforce despite the fact that his committee is considering ways to shrink its size, the report notes.
