NASA HQ support specialists to join IFPTE

Professional support specialists at NASA’s Washington, D.C., headquarters on Aug. 12 voted to form a union. The Federal Labor Relations Authority conducted the election.

Ninety-seven percent of the 320 NASA workers eligible to vote in the election cast ballots in favor of joining the NASA Headquarters Professional Association (NHPA), Local 9 of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers.

Professional support specialists at NASA headquarters include budget analysts, policy analysts, administrative specialists, secretaries and others, IFPTE said.

NHPA currently represents about 200 NASA engineers and scientists in Washington, bringing the total number under IFPTE representation to more than 500 employees. IFPTE also represents engineers and scientists at NASA labs and research facilities.
