The Department of Transportation plans to bring some of the work done by its IT contractor workforce in-house, reports Federal Times.
According to the department's chief information officer, an analysis showed that the 250 contractors who work with 50 federal employees to run the department's shared services and common operating environment platforms cost significantly more.
The CIO said savings gleaned by bringing some of those positions in-house over the next few years should be enough to provide two weeks of training a year to all the feds employed within those areas, the article noted.
