The Air Force has the second-highest percentage of obese troops in the military, and the branch is aiming to rein in on the problem by requiring commanders to be in shape, the Military Times reports.
Speaking at the Air Force Association's 2019 Air, Space & Cyber Conference on Sept. 17, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Goldfein said he will launch a new initiative designed to ensure that troops in command billets are in good physical shape throughout the year, or risk losing their job, the article reports, adding that he said, “’If you are a commander in the United States Air Force, you are fit. There is no other discussion.”
Goldfein did not give details about the new initiative, which plans to target the roughly 18 percent of all airmen that are obese, but the initiative is part of an ongoing overhaul of Air Force fitness, the report notes.
