Although the Trump administration pledged to hire 7,500 new border agents and customs officers to boost border security, the firm contracted to hire new staff has only brought on a small fraction of new employees, Government Executive reports.
According to the report, Customs and Border Protection has a $300 million contract with Accenture over the next five years to boost staff at CBP, but the company has only hired 15 employees and another 33 have accepted job offers.
The article notes that Accenture gets paid on a per-hire basis, and that CBP “is still confident the spending will bear fruit,” and the contractor expects a gradual increase of candidates in coming months to successfully exit the process in the coming months.
