OPM issues weather reminder

Tis the season for unpredictable, potentially dangerous winter weather, so the Office of Personnel Management is reminding agencies of its weather-related dismissal and telework policies.
In a Dec. 2 memo, OPM Director Beth Cobert said the agency is encouraging the Washington, D.C., federal workforce to consult the 2015, Area Dismissal and Closure Procedures guide to make weather-related telework, dismissal and operation decisions for the 2016-2017 winter season.
“This year, OPM is not recommending changes to the Procedures or the operating status announcements, but would like to highlight important topics for both agencies and employees,” such as communication expectations, the importance of following OPM operating status announcements and telework arrangements.
“OPM has consulted with an interagency working group of human resources specialists, chief human capital officers, and national labor organizations to ensure that our Procedures reflect the needs of the human resources community,” the memo notes, adding that state, transportation, local and federal officials alike have all been consulted and will support the OPM-issued guidelines.
