Those bizarre assessment questionnaires!

Also, please don't think that I have been ignoring all of the advice on the fourms.  I have been following lots of the advice here.  As a result of these forums, I learned about many job opportunities not advertised on USA Jobs and have applied to them.  And although I have not been discussing it, I am also applying to jobs with the state govt.  In fact, I am taking an exam for court assistant this October.  The pay is pretty good and the best part is they call people based on their exam scores, not by who they know.  This is the result of the state's very strict civil service laws.

Then you need to modify your resume so that it reflects justification for those questions as well.  HR specialists are not subject matter experts.  They are also not allowed to infer or interpret information not explicitly documented in your resume.  The hiring manager is a subject matter expert and as such has more interpretive latitude but you need to make it past HR in order to have a shot at an interview by the HM.

What should I do if I have a application window that extends into mid-August, and I could theoretically get a few more "yes" answers on the assessment questionnaire by taking some cheap, online classes in "financial management," etc?  Is it better to submit materials earlier, or to wait it out and try to scramble together something to fit those questions? Is there any level of legitimacy required when it comes to what qualifies as a "class, workshop, or seminar"?

What frustrates me is that they ask questions if you have taken training classes outside of school to help learn certain skills (teamwork, etc).  Well - I've learned those skills through school, of course (and in my employment) - but no, I haven't blown the money on some ridiculous day-long seminar about "teamwork" or "financial management".

Is my score going to take a major hit from answering no to those types of questions?
