I have been in the military and have a few years in the PO (+15) and I can see the characterization of the PO as having a lot of "military type" thinking and rules. Clearly as far as the Marines go, the PO would be considered seriously route step; however, for cvilians, it might look pretty militarized. Its all in one's perspective.
Postalwiz has a lot of knowledge about the PO that she generously shares. I am happy to have the benefit of her experience.

Parafrog

Actually I said "tries to be a para-military operation" and they do, I didn't say they were succeeding.  To a person who has never been in the military, the whole concept of being a federal employee, not being allowed to strike, and having to obey orders could easily make it seem like the military.

And again, as far as understanding the PO, you have a long way to go, did you understand everything about the corps in three years.

Have you ever worked in a plant?, an AO?

As far as the benefits go, you hired on as a TE, they shouldl have explained to you in the beginning that being a TE is a temporary job with no benefits where you can be let go at any time.

And yes, I know an 0321 is a recon marine, I was an 0311 when I started and an 0369 when I got out.

NEcarrier,

thank you for your serivce.  I see it more like the boy scouts but i understand where you are coming from.

her post " 36 years in the post office was enough military for me"  just really really ticked me off dude!  you remember how we felt about posers?

and could you imagine if she said that at golden coral at vets night sitting at a table with some jarheads or soldiers just back  from iraq?

I dont care who she knows that served. that doesnt make her a vet?

i guess the janitor at the post office knows what its like to carry a walking route all day ( you know, since he see's those carriers and talks to them every day. that makes him a carrier.

just ask the wiz!

thanks for your post necarrier
