Question for Blue, Bill, or anyone at FLETC.

I would like to drive my car from CA to FLETC. I was told that sometimes a person would graduate from FLETC on a Tuesday and then have to report for work on Thursday. How do people get their car back home? Do they have friends/family drive it back who flew in for the Graduation? Do they ship it on a car transport service? If so, is there a certain company ppl at FLETC use and how much would it cost to ship to the West Coast?

I want to be as prepared as possible for FLETC and all these logistical questions are popping up.
Thanks for the input folks!

My plan was to fly over there, buy a beater, and sell it on craigs list few weeks before I go back home.

I've thought of doing this too.  Does anyone know how registering the car would work?  Could you register it in GA without being a resident or having a perm address?

Do they have buses or shuttles that go to the airports that are around FLETC. Or is there a preferred car service that drives there. Also prices for these options if they exist?

I plan on driving down as well. I'm curious how reimbursment works. I know they would pay for my flight down there, would they pay for driving, as well?

That's my plan too, but since you already have that plan, I will just be bumming rides!  LOL

I definitely intend to drive to FLETC.  I've been in situations with groups of guys where there were few cars available and I didn't have one.  I do not intend to let that happen again.  It's horrible being dependent on other people.

I'll be more than happy to give rides though if there is a need!

Did anyone else receive a letter from CHS about their results?  All it gave me was my scores on different things and the proper range.  The only thing I was considered low on was platelets.  Does this mean I passed the physical and am all set as far as medical is concerned?

I got something similar to this.  As long as there isn't a form in there stating you need a follow-up on xxxxx, then you should be good to go.  Mine had the score and range thing you describe, plus a letter stating I needed a follow-up on the TB test - it all came in that package.  You could always contact Cinci next week to confirm you are medically cleared.

The letter from CHS with your lab results is not really anything important.  Its a complimentary service to notify you about your current health.

I received it.

It was about two weeks later that I received the follow-up notices.  The follow-ups are routed through Cincinnati IRS. All documents come via UPS, including the clearance letter.

PS you will only get a clearance letter if you received a follow-up.  So no news is good news.

Yes they would pay for driving but it is limited to the cost of a one way goverment plane ticket.  This is covered in the frequently asked questions paper that you can get from your mentor.

Yes there are shuttles to Jacksonville and Brunswick airports They are usually used for your trip to Brunswick and your trip home. I would not depend on them for a weekend trip home. This would be a good topic of discussion with your SAI when you arrive at FLETC. There is scheduled bus service to Wal-Mart, Target and St Simons Island. Sometimes there are also scheduled service to Jacksonville and Savannah. If you have no car, this is a good alternative. Let me know if you need more specific information.
