No guns for TSA officers

The head of the Transportation Security Administration said the agency will not arm its officers at airport screening checkpoints.

The head of the Transportation Security Administration said the agency will not arm its officers at airport screening checkpoints, reports USA Today.

J. David Cox Sr., national president of the American Federation of Government Employees, which represents the transportation security officers, had urged TSA to create a new class of armed TSA officers after one officer was shot and killed in November at Los Angeles International Airport.

But TSA Administrator John Pistole this week rejected that suggestion, saying that efforts to address security issues raised by the shooting are focused instead on increasing the visibility and involvement of airport police and local law enforcement, according to the report.
