Air Force offers more buyouts, early outs

The Air Force announced this month that it is offering its civilian employees a second round of early outs and buyouts beginning Jan. 9.

The Air Force announced this month that it is offering its civilian employees a second round of early outs and buyouts beginning Jan. 9.

The voluntary early retirement authority (VERA) and voluntary separation incentive pay (VSIP) offers are part of an ongoing effort to meet the Defense Department requirement to hold civilian funding at fiscal 2010 levels, the Air Force said.

The Air Force offered a first round in the fall. The second round will help the service branch further realign and rebalance its civilian workforce, according to the department.

Personnel managers will provide civilian employees with VERA/VSIP eligibility surveys in January, according to an Air Force announcement. Applications will be due either on Feb. 3 or on an earlier date set by local authorities. Applicants who receive approval for this round must separate on or before April 30, the Air Force stated.

“We are pursuing all available force management measures, to include civilian hiring controls, where required, with the goal of avoiding involuntary measures for our current permanent workforce,” said Maj. Gen. Sharon Dunbar, the director of force management policy.

Air Force employees can access information on the VERA/VSIP programs at the secure Air Force Personnel Service website by clicking here.
